That’s right, you read that correctly; if you have a prostate, more orgasms can actually make it healthier! It almost sounds too good to be true, but having orgasms more frequently can actually reduce the risk of prostate cancer by up to 36%. Research about this is still preliminary and, therefore, varies in terms of frequency and what aspects of orgasms are most beneficial. But, one thing research does show, is frequent orgasms are only beneficial to prostate health when they occur with ejaculation. Researchers believe that through ejaculation, cancer-causing toxins that may have built up in and around the prostate are flushed out, so they cannot build up and spread to the prostate itself.
Some research concluded anywhere from 4 to 7 ejaculations per week could reduce prostate cancer risk, while other research says 21 or more ejaculations a month is the magic number. While the research is not yet clear on exact numbers, the fact remains that orgasms are beneficial to prostate health. However, other emerging research suggests that having orgasms specifically through stimulating the prostate even may be more effective at reducing cancer risk. Here at The Velvet Lily, we have long advocated for everyone, especially those with prostates, to experiment with anal play; well, here’s another reason to get to know your butt a little bit more. Prostate orgasms are more pleasurable and more intense than an orgasm achieved through stroking the penis; luckily, we have a lot of great toys to explore anal with! To start exploring your butt and orgasming your way to better prostate health, check out my Anal 101 blog post! After you have the basics down, we suggest incorporating some toys! Our favorites are the Fun Factory Duke, the LELO Bruno, and the LELO Loki Wave! While all of this is awesome and you should go forth and have many more orgasms, it is important to remember a couple of things. First and foremost, like all things health, orgasms alone will not maintain prostate health; good health practices in all areas of life is the best way to protect against prostate cancer and many other diseases. Most importantly, however, orgasms do not have to equal having more sex! Harvard conducted a study where they found no connection between the number of sexual partners or the frequency of sexual intercourse and prostate health. So, this information is not intended to be used to convince people to have more sex with them. If you have a lot of FULLY CONSENSUAL sex, that’s awesome, keep it up, but an abundance of orgasms can be achieved just fine on your own, and masturbation is awesome!
