Choosing a Sex Lubricant

In the perfect world, the female body would create that exact amount of lubrication that can take sex from average to perfect. Unfortunately, such a place does not exist, but then we were given lube. Not all lubricants are created equal though, and it’s important to figure out which one is working in your best interest. Before incorporating any new lubricant into your sex life it is important to test it out first; find your preference. There are three main types of lube that you need to know about- water based, silicone, and oil based.

There are many reasons why women try their hand at using lubricants. Vaginal dryness is a common occurrence amongst women of all ages and for varying reasons. When you’re sexually aroused, more blood flows to your pelvic organs, which creates vaginal fluid (natural lubrication). Hormonal changes may affect the amount and consistency of this fluid that your body naturally produces. Sometimes there may be a lag between the brain and the vagina. You may be mentally ready to have sex, but in need of some extra help to get your body physically ready for sex. Even if you don’t experience problems self-lubricating, store bought lubrication can still enhance your sex life.

Water Based Lubricants

Water based sex lubricants are highly recommended for women suffering from vaginal dryness and are the most common on the market. They have some major benefits for your body that should be taken into consideration. They are perfect for skin that is prone to irritation and for women that experience yeast infections. They are safe for latex contraceptives and sex toy usage, while offering a quick clean up with water. Gun Oil Pump Water-Based Lubricant is highly concentrated, and formulated to stay slick longer than others of it’s kind. This water-based lubricant is glycerin free (sugars found in glycerin feed yeast) and hypoallergenic, perfect for sensitive skin types. Or if you’re looking for something more adventurous, flavored lubricants are a fun way to spice up oral sex with a partner. JO H20 Flavored is a flavored water based lubricant that comes in over 10 delicious flavors that are not sticky or tacky on the skin.

Silicone Based Lubricants

Silicone based sex lubricants are slick and can be used in multiple water environments (swimming pools, showers, hot tubs, etc.). They will require a bit of cleanup on your part, with some soap and water. It will be difficult to wash out of bedding and clothing, so be careful. However, they last longer than water based lubricants, and don’t require reapplications. Sliquid Naturals: Silver Silicone Lubricant is a silicone based lubricant that is 100% waterproof and long lasting, formulated for hours of pleasure. Warming lubricants can help enhance sensation during sex, but too much can cause oversensitivity for a woman’s vagina. JO Women Premium is a sensual silicone based warming lubricant. The warmth activates on contact enhancing sensations for the body leaving it feeling silky smooth. Beware using silicone lubricants on silicone sex toys though, for it will cause a silicone reaction that can wear down the silicone.

Oil Based Lubricants

Oil based sex lubricants are not a common choice, and we never recommend them, but remain one none the less. They are recommended primarily for external use and are not ideal for the vagina. They are also considered unsafe when used with latex products or rubber toys, due to the fact that they can break down the latex. Due to their thick texture, oil based lubricants can be very messy and difficult to clean up.

Choosing the perfect lubricant for you will require a bit of trial and error, but will ultimately only lead to the pleasurable enhancement of your sex life, so don’t be afraid to try something new.
